Technology Manager - Sustaining

Opportunity to lead a team of engineers, designers, and technicians responsible for the continuous improvement and maintenance of various Thermal Segment product lines.

Primary Responsibilities of Team:

  • Provide engineering change approval & management of existing products
    • Provide BOM substitution qualification and FAI (First Article Inspection) as needed by obsolescence
    • Update/add product approvals
    • Qualify products for manufacturing relocation
    • Improve product quality and/or reliability needed to meet datasheet performance
  • Assess and resolve technical aspects of field returns
  • Build demo products for sales, training, and trouble-shooting
  • Participate in knowledge transfer from NPD: technical design reviews, FAI, and post-launch product support
  • Launch line extensions & “mini” new product projects for assigned product lines, using 3D
  • Provide VE (Value Engineer) support where our dedicated VE team needs engineering help
  • Provide application engineering support when the Sales & Customer Care teams require deeper expertise
  • Oversee associated labs and equipment
  • For Segment’s and Product Lines without dedicated custom/modified resources, support for custom/modified product requests

Other Responsibilities of Team & this Leader:

  • Create and implement consistent and comprehensive global sustaining standard processes across all Thermal Segment technology sustaining work streams
  • Manage the team, including development plans & selection decisions for local and remote team members
  • Define project scope and deliverables within project portfolio
  • Direct the work of technologists and technicians, etc. in the design, analysis, prototyping and testing within project portfolio
  • Develop and execute test plans to verify product design intent and compliance with codes and standards
  • Coordinate, run, and manage the monthly Sustaining Review process 
  • Provide technical leadership through technical reports, published papers, seminars, and active participation in the technical community, such as Industry Associations
  • Assist with the resolution of technical issues related to product design, system design, and compliance with industry standards
  • Support operational improvement projects where design expertise is required
  • Create engineering documentation, drawings, and BOM’s for customer specific mechanical and, electrical systems using nVent products
  • Follow, and help develop where appropriate, nVent standard work and processes to support portfolio execution
  • Define, manage, prioritize, and monitor work progression within group including tracking and reporting task backlog, cycle-time, and on-time completion
  • Serve as product engineering approver for manufacturing review board
  • Serve as liaison with quality, manufacturing, operations, supply, and new product development engineering
  • Prepare Capital Expenditure Requests for lab and equipment upgrades


  • BS in Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Masters degree desirable
  • At least 5 years relevant experience

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working directly with other functions and customers preferred
  • Excellent project management skills to efficiently organize, plan, and track project activities
  • Excellent engineering ability and aptitude
  • Knowledge of global hazardous and non-hazardous area approvals for electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and development
  • Knowledge of quality assurance methodologies
  • Multi-language ability preferred
  • Ability to travel globally
