Pipe Mill Operator

Summary / Objective

This position is required to operate a pipe mill to cut and weld steel into pipe according to customer/client specification using tools and equipment designated for this task.

Essential Functions

·       Start and set up machine and heavy equipment for daily operation.

·       Monitor machine and equipment performance, completing preventative maintenance, adjusting, and/or making repairs as needed.

·       Perform quality control following reporting and recordkeeping procedures.

·       Follow drawings / blueprints to cut and weld pipe to project/client specifications.

·       Operate crane to maneuver steel rolls into position on mill.

·       Operate forklift to place finished pipe in the proper storage location.

·       Use various small tools including calipers, tape measures and angle gauges.

·       Follow all safety regulations and protocols.

·       Perform shop math including decimal to fraction equivalents.

·       Follows instructions both verbally and written.

·       Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition.

·       Time management – Manages time by prioritizing and organizing workload to achieve maximum productivity and adjusting as situations change.

·       Attention to detail – Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task through concern for all the areas involved and able to verify the correctness or error in individual or part of procedure.

·       Safety – Complies with all workplace and trade safety laws, regulations, standards, and practices identifying and correction conditions as needed.


Work Environment

Regular work schedules. However, overtime may be required if necessary. This position works primarily in a partially enclosed warehouse with temperatures affected by outside temperatures. Exposure to outside weather when moving material or finished product. Exposure will include all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.

Exposure to noise and sparks with machine operation and welding.

Proper PPE must always be worn. 

Physical Demands

This position is defined as Heavy. Work involves exerting up to 65 pounds of force frequently using any combination of body, hands, fingers, arms, legs, or feet to complete work. Lifting, walking, standing, and sitting to a significant degree.

Specific vision is required, sometimes through a welding helmet/goggle.



·       1+ years Crane operation

·       2 years’ experience fabrication facility

·       1+ years Pipe Mill experience

       ·       1+ years Forklift operation  

Certifications / Licenses

·       Certified Welder

      ·       Certified Forklift Operator preferred
